Self-sovereign multi-factor identity authentication using smart-contract blockchain technology

ABOUT

Authcoin is a self-sovereign and smart-contract blockchain using a multi-factor identity authentication system that is configurable with flexible challenge sets depending on the application context. The core idea is that the emerging machine-to-everything (M2X) economy requires such a flexible idenity-authentication system for allowing humans, smart autonomous devices, other machines, and infrastructure units to enter and exit an M2X ecosystem in a trusted way.

Alex is an associate professor at the TalTech Department of Software Science where his research focus is on blockchains for novel e-governance models that involve many collaborating organizations.

Thus, through well-defined standards, we can create a digital framework suitable for paradigm shift. Blockchain technology will provide the immutability property of all actions in the public space, in a transparent way for any citizen.

Alexander is a young entrepreneur just 25 years old, he is an expert in cyber security and blockchain technologies. In 2017, he launched the first Romanian cryptocurrency without any financing. He is well known in Romania for helping governments and public institutions strengthen their systems in terms of cyber security. In 2019, he launched the e-PrimariaTa platform through which he digitized the interaction with the citizens of all the mayoralties of the cities in Romania.

Allergic rhinitis (AR) is a major and growing global health problem. When uncontrolled, it may cause sleep impairment, undermine school performance and work productivity resulting in a disproportional socio-economic burden. Early recognition and monitoring of symptoms are both the cornerstone and the Achilles heel of the established management in AR. Exploiting edge computing, edge PAT monitors patients’ gestures and correlates them to AR potential outbreak and related symptoms.

PROJECT TITLE
A Fingerprinting-Based Countermeasure Against EVSE Relay Attacks

ABOUT

With the increasing spread of electric vehicles, we must address the cybersecurity of the charging infrastructure. We discover a flaw in the communication standard leading to an attack of the relay type. To protect the system against this kind of threat, we designed an authentication system based on the fingerprinting of the charging column. It relies on hardly spoofable information, such as the location and physical properties of the charger.

PROJECT TITLE
Using reinforcement learning to optimize the placement of distributed services on opportunistic clusters of moving vehicles

ABOUT

We propose to leverage mobility patterns of moving vehicles in urban centers to enable an Internet of Vehicles (IoV) system by orchestrating the available resources to deploy vehicular crowd-sensing and object-detection applications.  We aim to develop a reinforcement-learning (RL)-based service placement scheme for the dynamic vehicular Fog system. This system can reduce processing costs and facilitate road and traffic management to enable the development of smart cities.

IoT, AI, edge/cloud computing are enabling technologies that can help improving the quality of life and security of citizens. This project will experiment the application of those enablers for an important global urban problem to save lives at intersections and to improve traffic management.

It is data that fuels the progress of AI, but privacy concerns be a show stopper for many applications. This project explores how to operate AI based control and planning under Homomorphic Encryption - a technology that allows computations to be performed on encrypted data by an external party without revealing its content - by building proof of concept applications set in an edge data center context, we want to provide examples for practioners of this promising privacy preservation technology and contribute to its adaption as a building block for trustworthy AI.

Investigate Optical Wireless Integration Technologies for Next-generation Converged Access Networks

Ultra-low end-to-end latency with high reliability is one of the most crucial requirements in 5G networks to support next-generation highly delay-sensitive telecom applications such as tactile internet, logistics, and mission-critical-control. This requires re-architecting the integration between wireless access and optical transport networks which has been a particular focus point to support such requirements of 5G and beyond. This project will try to explore such optical wireless integration technologies from the perspective of real-world systems.

The Sovereignty of Medical Data

ABOUT

Data is becoming the most valuable asset that a human can possess. Sensitive data such as medical data when not being held solely by their beneficiaries are prone to theft or misuse. Leveraging blockchain technology as a tool can help to solve these potential dangers. The main focus of this project is to design and develop a system, which will be compliant with decentralized identifiers (DIDs) and verifiable credentials (VCs) W3C standards, and it will give control of the data to the respected owner. More specifically, the project aims to build and use an infrastructure layer that will include a Blockchain layer, a protocol layer for the DIDs, and a decentralized storage layer for DID Documents and VCs.

Visual Identities of Virtual Agents with Empathic Traits

ABOUT

The project uses behavioural and neurophysiological data collected in a series of experiments designed to measure the strongest empathic response in human participants engaged in human-AI interaction in order to determine, using supervised machine learning, the configuration of the facial visual identity of virtual agents that is most likely to trigger an empathic response. We aim to develop a human-AI sense-react habitat suitable for medical AIs with empathic, trust-enhancing visual identities.

Tudor works at the intersection of several fields within neuroaesthetics and medical humanities. He initiated the first neuroaesthetics lab In Romania, where he is Principal Investigator.
