Sense-Share-Select: distributed collaborative Internet gateway selection algorithm
ABOUT
Shared Internet gateways are important for providing open, free and neutral Internet access. Pooling them allows to share spare Internet connectivity among neighbors and are therefore particularly useful and cost-effective for underserved communities. We propose a lightweight Sense-Share-Select gateway selection algorithm based on active, collaborative performance monitoring to improve the Quality of Experience of the user nodes each node by providing tailored Internet gateway performance measurements.

Enabling High-accuracy Heart-Monitoring Wearable Devices using Embedded Artificial Intelligence
ABOUT
Sudden cardiac death and arrhythmia represent a major worldwide public health problem, accounting for 15–20% of all deaths. Most of these deaths could be avoided if the arrhythmias were diagnosed earlier, yet the broad availability of low-cost diagnostic tools remains poor, resulting in overall poor survival to patients. SPARKS delivers a light-weight wearable vest that incorporates an Artificial Neural Network that allows on-the-spot, reliable, accurate and instant interpretation of high-definition electrocardiography recorded by onboard sensors.
BIO
Developing evidence-based, scientifically validated digital therapeutics by embedding artificial intelligence on miniature wearable devices.

VES – Virtual Ecosystem for Safety & Security
ABOUT
VES is a strategic model for integral security management. Internet of Everything generates billions of datasets, forcing to accelerate the digital transformation of organizations. (Cyber)Security sector must not be alien. Problems: 1) No Safety/Security and Logical/Physical holistic view; 2) Risk Analysis are statically implemented; 3) Heterogeneity in legal frameworks; 4) Security and Safety not aligned with objectives. To solve this, VES is formed by an IoT Risk Analysis module, Automation module for workflow, Machine Learning and Predictive Governance-based frontend.

Knowledge transfer between buildings with different levels of sensorization using transfer learning techniques for the realization of smart buildings
ABOUT
A transfer learning system for sharing knowledge between buildings can optimize sensor deployments. We will consider physical and geospatial information, monitored data and models for creating a network of buildings able to exchange information according to their similarities. This network will be used to transfer model's parameters for prediction, clustering and processes automation. We would also send recommendations from highly monitored buildings to their less sensorized acquaintances.

Automated Firmware Crawling, Firmware Virtualization and Honeyfarm Deployment of IoT Devices
ABOUT
During my expedition, I’m going to design a framework that automatically creates target device tailored honeypots for the (Industrial) Internet of Things without any further knowledge about the firmware. Honeypots are a common practice in the area of cybersecurity, but due to the heterogeneous landscape of IoT devices, up to now there is no generic honeypot framework that is capable of attracting attacks for the wide variety of IoT architectures.

Dynamic evolution of mobile traffic data around the world
ABOUT
The interactive map I would develop covers different parameters and statistics of past, current and future estimated mobile networks. The purpose of this tool is to make an interactive graph that could help tenants, operators and users to understand and to predict how new generation of networks will behave given current and past data of different services and applications. Furthermore, we could answer the social-based question: do apps decide our habits, or do we choose our apps?

RF Spectrum Deep Insight
ABOUT
RF spectrum deep insight project is seeking for a robust and cost-efficient solution for multi-transmitter modulation classification and transmitters identification. The goal of the project is to achieve this on real data obtained from sensors in the field. Such data are in general noisy, incomplete and can contain unknown or jamming signals. The resulting solution will enable to support many applications in practice for which spectrum awareness is crucial such as DSA in 5G and beyond networks.

Allocation of Fog Resources to IoT Edge Devices
ABOUT
With more devices onboard the Internet every day, there is a constant drive to balance QoS with efficient use of resources. In the IoT era, these devices along the things-to-cloud continuum, present a unique opportunity to additionally serve as computing hubs. Termed Fog computing, this paradigm can be used to host applications and process data closer to the source. The aim is to use AI and optimization methods to achieve an efficient and dynamic allocation of fog resources to such applications.

5G for safe robot control
ABOUT
Robotics and 5G is a key technology combination that can improve flexibility in manufacturing by replacing robot controllers with edge-computing, reducing robot setup times, and making their solutions more scalable. The first step towards this vision requires safe and reliable robot operations over 5G. My expedition's objective is to understand and remove barriers that exist in achieving real-time wireless robot control. This will be a step for factories towards batch size zero production.
